Gait Analysis

Gait analysis is the assessment of the way in which you move when walking or running from one foot to the other. This is known as the gait cycle.

People who will greatly benefit from gait analysis commonly have one or more of the following issues:

  • Pain when walking or running
  • Painful aches – high or low
  • Foot, ankle, knee or hip pain
  • Sore feet due to standing all day

In sports a gait analysis is used to examine the biomechanics (muscle and joint movement) to help athletes run more efficiently and to identify posture-related or movement-related problems in people with injuries.

Anyone who runs professionally, or as an amateur needs to maintain good technique to avoid training interruptions and stay injury free. A gait analysis can help to identify problems allowing intervention to reduce the risk of suffering from injury, improving rehabilitation and optimising performance.

We use industry leading software Footscan® powered by RS Scan which is the proven choice for professional runners and athletes the world over. Using sensors we scan the underside of your foot in motion, recording timing sequences during the whole gait cycle and whilst capturing the pressure of distinct landmarks in the foot. This results in the detection of any imbalances in the foot that may be related to your problem whereby we can then implement preventative rehabilitation for you. As part of the process we can also provide and fit bespoke 3D printed corrective orthotics from phits™.
